Intergenerational Activities
Due to current restrictions some activities are not currently on offer, but BIC and Fortrose Academy continue to work together in new ways. Watch this space!
Games Afternoons
In a recent HMI school inspection the work done by Fortrose Acedemy and Black Isle Cares was highly commended and recommended as 'practice worth sharing'. We are very proud of this achievement. |
Intergenerational Games On Thursday afternoons during school term time Fortrose Academy students, BIC volunteers and older folk have been made very welcome in Fortrose Library to play games such as Scrabble, Chess, Dominoes and Uno. Folks from different parts of the community have got to know each other and enjoy a cuppa together. People from the age of 13 up to 94 attend. Quite an age span!! The atmosphere is very relaxed and all age groups get on famously, learning about each others lives both past and present. Competition ranges from pretty fierce to very, very relaxed indeed!! |
Intergenerational Meals
Intergenerational Meals
For over three years Fortrose Academy students have hosted meals in Fortrose Library which are attended by older folk in the community. We usually have three a year including one before Christmas. Students do the baking, make the soup and provide tea, coffee, music and games. A local older person commented that 'The sunshine really came into my life today' after one such meal. Students and older folk really feel that the so called generation gap is bridged. We also welcome children and staff from Fortrose Preschool who come and sing to us at the meals.

Intergenerational Sing-a-long
For 6 Tuesdays in the run up to Christmas 2019 students and staff from Fortrose Academy, Fortrose Library, Fortrose Preschool and the local community gathered in the library to sing seasonal songs.
Singing is known to be good for both mental and physical health and we all felt our batteries recharged after these enjoyable musical sessions. We even did a rendition of some of our songs at the Academy Christmas concert.
A new and very successful venture; this is definitely something we will look to repeat.
